After our night at the "Dig Tree" the group again split up with some heading down the Strezlecki Track to Arkaroola and another group heading home through southwest Qld to Nocundra and Thargomindah.
The group heading through Qld encountered the remains of the Cooper Creek flood 100km east of the "Dig Tree". Greg on the Africa twin got bogged up to the bashplate and his chain came off. After getting the bike out of the mud the cush drive bearing was found to be destroyed. Just before we got to the flood Adam's XTZ750 decided to break its main frame in 2 places. For the next 200km Adam rode at 80km/h standing up with Greg following untill we reached Thargomindah where a new bearing was put into the Africa twin and the XTZ750 was trucked home !!!! The adventures weren't finished yet as Michael's XTZ660 broke 9 spokes on the way to Hungerford and after redistributing the remaining spokes evenly it was an easy run home on the tar. Mark Youdale's XLV750 died with a friend stayor only 80km his home in Kempsey.
The group that headed to Arkaroola had some great riding but they must have been having too much fun as Mike bent the shock on his Cagiva Elephant, which had to be carefully straghtened at Arkaroola. When he got back to Sydney the engine had no compression, Ahhh Ducati's !!!.

Mike's bent shock on the Cagiva Elephant. The shock was pulled out at Arkaroola and straighted as much as possible with a press. Thanks Graham !!!. Why did the shock bend ?, possibly something to do with the photo below !!!!!!.
